He prefers to be called Tan Malaka

When he was 16 years old, he received the title ‘Datuk Tan Malaka’ during a traditional ceremony, which is a semi-noble title, which means leader, chief or traditional head, this title was given because his mother was from a prominent family, but he often called for other people just call themselves Tan Malaka.

As for the unique story of this title, when Tan Malaka was in Haarlem, the Dutch often made jokes by calling him ‘Prince of Malacca’

Good at Pencak Silat and likes fighting

As a man of Minang blood, it would be incomplete if he were not good at Pencak Silat, because usually he practices Pencak Silat 1 to 2 times a week. Little Tan Malaka also did this, he even had time to practice his martial arts on his boarding house friends in Bussum, the Netherlands.

The crab move from pencak silat was practiced by Tan Malaka when he was attacked by his friend and Tan defended himself by doing this move so that his friend really behaved well towards him.

Tan is known as a person who knows no fear. It is said that Tan once took on a senior challenge swimming in a fast and wavy river which ultimately made him faint.

Never married but almost engaged

Until the end of his life, Tan Malaka never married. But who would have thought that he was almost engaged to the girl his family chose.

But Tan’s engagement was thwarted because at that time he, who was 16 years old, was faced with two choices of accepting the title of datuk or being betrothed, and in the end he chose to accept the title of datuk.
